The Final Purge post-gamejam update! Patch notes and devlog


The post-gamejam update is here! Now with a whole new gameplay loop with a roguelike upgrade system and a new final boss! The previous boss has been shifted forward to be the "Iudex Gundyr" tutorial boss, you know, to make sure you got the combat mechanics right before you face the actual challenge.

Changes:

  • New final boss and roguelike system. No more "zelda lost woods" gameplay loop of restarting from the start and remembering cardinal directions since that system is shit and a grand total of zero players enjoyed it. Most of the fun lies in combat so im gonna make sure you get the most out of the combat.
  • Major optimizations: GPU instancing of blood particles, object pooled projectiles. Though webGL is cringe and it still lags the first time stuff gets instantiated. Meaning you will get some lagspikes at first but they wont be a problem if you carry on and load in the objects over time.
  • Regular mobs have a pseudo "poise" system where your projectiles can still knock them back but they aren't completely stunlocked and can still attack you. Melee still stunlocks them though, go ham. They also have a shorter but faster dash attack.
  • "Mini" variations of enemies: they move faster, go down quicker, but also get up quicker.
  • Skele brutes will reflect your projectiles during their attack.
  • Skele rogues can now dodge roll your melee attacks lmao.
  • Certain enemy and boss states will now reflect your projectiles to indicate that you cant damage them in that state.
  • Map balance: All rooms now have 1 gravestone each, and I made it so that every room had their fair share of intractable objects you can push around.
  • Light will now scale based on the number of upgrades you have picked up rather than your current sanity.
  • S P A T I A L  A U D I O
  • More attention to detail that nobody will notice: Lamp posts now blink and light up the area, objects locations are saved between runs for continuity effect but oh well nobody ever notices it.
  • I made the default audio louder. Yet its intentional that its more ear-rape at the start now so you can actually make use of the innovative settings slider UI that I made. And innovation was my 2nd worst scoring criteria btw (How did week of the weak even have it as its best criteria idek).

Aite have fun my timing was 08:51 mins when testing. Final boss is also beatable with no upgrades. If I were to put this on steam ill probably make an achievement for that. Try finger, but hole.
